Glory Story: Chris + Filip Chris and Filip, both UIC alumni, had previously spent time at the Newman Center during their time in school, but their paths never crossed. Meet Chris Chris was deeply involved in the Newman community – he was an altar server, Bible study participant, and was discipled by Daniel, a FOCUS missionary. As he began to discern his next steps after graduation, Chris considered becoming a FOCUS missionary. Chris recalled Daniel telling him,“Regardless of what you do, you’re still going to be a missionary, it’s just whether or not you’re going to be a FOCUS missionary. [...]

Why Newman?

2020-11-15T19:58:23+00:00

By Meghan Grill, UIC Alumna (Class of 2019) During the end of my junior year of college, I made the decision to not only change majors but universities, leaving behind the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Having lived at Newman Hall at UIUC, I was very familiar with Newman Centers, and upon transferring, it was only natural to find my new Newman Center. Amidst the whirlwind of learning a new campus, I found the St. John Paul II Newman Center, allowing me an opportunity to escape from the busyness of college life. The community, openness, and love that was [...]

The conference included several keynotes on evangelization, prayer, and elements of the Catholic faith given by some of the top Catholic speakers from all over the country. UIC student Michael Strange said, "At first, I was a little apprehensive [...]
